Dead or Alive

(compiled Sept 27, 2014)

A long overdue playlist inspired by recent gigs/festivals (The War on Drugs, Highasakite, tUnE-yArDs, Hozier, Alex Vargas, Travis is a Tourist, Owen McGarry, Brownbear), new albums/tracks by Alt-J, Catfish and the Bottlemen, Sir Sly, Perfume Genius, The Staves, Sleepmakeswaves, We Were Promised Jetpacks, and new discoveries (Woman’s Hour, Jonsi, Adult Jazz, Marie Naffah, Brownbear). I am especially digging Alt-J’s and Sir Sly’s new album, and excited for the release of new albums by Hozier and We Were Promised Jetpacks. I was very impressed with Adult Jazz and Marrie Naffah, who I only discovered because they opened for artists I was already seeing (tUnE-yArDs and Passport to Stockholm). I was also DEFINITELY DIGGING both Dead and Alive (which is why it’s the playlist title track) and Olive Tree, the two Brownbear tracks that are released for purchase on iTunes. What a lucky strike to see them play a siiiiiiiick show FOR FREE at a tiny bar in London when they were opening for the Libertines at Alexandra Palace (10,500 capacity) the NEXT NIGHT. The whole set was ACE, and I look forward to the release of their first album in late Fall.
