Bon Iver

Bon Iver– The Greek Theater, Berkeley (Sept 21, 2011)

Bon Iver is an American folk band founded in 2007 by multi-instrumentalist, Justin Vernon (critically acclaimed..he won a grammy but said he didn’t really care much about it). I was lucky enough to see this band 3 times in their prime (Fall-Winter 2011), and hearing the album over again bring me right back to that period in my life. ‘Holocene’ was my anthem for a good month, and tears immediately start welling in my eyes when I hear it. Such amazingly beautiful, cathartic music. x

Justin Vernon has a uniquely distinct high-pitched voice that could stand alone and still be magical.  However, he has 10 musicians (double drummers, double violins, french horn/trombone/saxophone, synthesizer, 2 guitars, and keyboard) up there harmonizing with his bone-chilling vocals (never such a plethora of instruments on one stage!) Some of my favorite songs are Perth, Holocene, Woods, The Wolves, Blindsided, Stacks, Michicant, Blood Bank.

“I’m building a sill…to slow down time.”  -Bon Iver (Woods)

Listening to their magic from the high hills of the Greek Theater in Berkeley with my  friend Jen was enough to SLOW DOWN TIME. ❤

Bon Iver– Freeborn Hall, Davis (Sept 21, 2011)

It was SO INCREDIBLY LUCKY (basically unreal) that UC Davis (university where I got my PhD) hosted Bon Iver for their spring concert.
